Whispers of the Wind
The gentle caress of the wind, etching its whispers on the sands of time
Aeolian Plains captures the serene beauty of wind-sculpted landscapes through a reaction-diffusion simulation using the Gray-Scott model. Reaction-diffusion models simulate how two substances interact while spreading through space at different rates and model the spontaneous pattern formation in a wide range of contexts in the natural world.
For this design we tuned the simulation parameters and initial state to generate patterns that mirror the elegant formations created when wind shapes sand dunes, the gentle undulations, erosion channels, and depositional ridges that define desert topography.
The surface reveals flowing, organic patterns that capture the tranquil rhythm of aeolian forces—the quiet persistence of wind that transforms entire landscapes grain by grain, creating the harmonious geometries found in nature's most contemplative environments.
