Inner Workings
The Gray-Scott model describes a system of two chemical substances that diffuse through a medium and react with each other. Depending on the parameters specifying reaction rates and diffusion coefficients, the Gray-Scott model can produce a wide variety of dynamic patterns, such as spots, stripes, spirals, and even chaotic structures.
It provides a mathematical framework for understanding the development of patterns on animal skins, such as the spots on leopards or the stripes on zebras, which result from the interaction of pigments during growth. Beyond animal patterns, the model can also simulate the formation of sand dunes, cloud patterns, and even some aspects of chemical reactions in biological cells.
For the Alluvial Crush design, we tuned the system’s parameters to produce a coalescing spirals pattern.
